It's not lens distortion that you're seeing (although there's a tiny bit of that too) it's perspective. You'd get the same distortion with your eye if you stood three feet from Sean at a height of six feet. You just wouldn't be able to see the entire scene with your eye like the lens can (since the eye has a much narrower cone of detailed perception).
